Stadtspiegel – UI Design

During this group project in the 3rd semester, we were asked to develop an object and interface for a device of our choice that solves everyday problems.

Our initial idea was to create a device for refugees or foreigners, which would help them understand the city they’re staying in better.

We started collecting all the features which the device could include, which may be helpful.

We then divided them into four categories: must, should, could and won’t.

To get a better overview, we prepared a hierarchy with all the different functions of the device.

Afterward, we created use cases for visualization.

We also made some sketches.

For further clarity, we used a paper prototype that showcased the information hierarchy of two different use cases.

The interfaces were then created.

We decided to use the second design for our model and revised it in Photoshop.

We then redesigned our interface and created a quick animation to showcase the function of our design.

We also filmed a video to show how the device “Stadtspiegel” (German for “city mirror”) could be included in one’s everyday life. At first, we drew a storyboard.

And then we made our little movie.
