Laser measure device – Product Design

In the second semester, we were asked to design a laser distance-measuring device. We were given the measurements and necessary functions.

I  made TOUCH marker sketches as well as quick random ones for my initial idea.

Once the basic concept was decided, I made more specific drawings and started measuring a bit.

The final design was visualized with another marker sketch.

I also created a presentation poster with Illustrator that featured the different buttons and their functions.

With the help of Rhinoceros, I created a CAD model of my design.

Furthermore, I designed different packagings for the device.

I printed out my favorite version, cut it and glued the pieces together.

For the prototype, I used the Rhinoceros file to mill all the different pieces to build the device. The plates are polystyrene and in order to stick them together, I used a solvent instead of glue. Once I had the matching pieces, I spray painted them in orange and black and then assembled them together to finish the prototype.

The finished product:

At last, I made a booklet of my process, the finished product is still with my professor so I’ll upload it as soon as I get it back.
